A retired school administrator who argued the site is unsafe for children, citing heavy overlapping school traffic and three recent accidents near Safeway and Lad Lane.

The Hollister Prep superintendent said the district is out of space, explained the $29 million bond financing, and asked for approval to begin lease negotiations with the building's owner.

The school's representative said big-box retailers had passed on the site due to traffic, argued a school is the better fit, and noted it would relieve overcrowding.

A commercial broker who helped find the site praised the reuse of the long-vacant building and urged approval.
